Just like defenders wide midfielders are a great option for
points. Wide players will see a lot of the ball and will gain a lot of points
for crosses (+0.75). Especially pick wingers who are playing against a weaker
team or playing for a team who love to use their wide players. You can often
pick up a cheap winger from a lower league team as you know this will be their
only outlet. Wingers will also find themselves in goal scoring positions and
will also create chances.
Another way to pick a midfielder is a to pick a player who
plays in the 10 role which basically means to play just behind the Forward.
Players who play in this role are usually players who can create chances from
nothing. They are usually the play makers and most creative players on their
team. This in turn means a lot of assists and hopefully goals. Great examples
of this type of midfielder is Gylfi Sigurdsson who currently plays at Swansea
and Christian Eriksen at Tottenham.
Typically try to avoid defensive midfielders. Although they
may pick up points for intercepting passes (+0.5) they are also liable for
giving away a lot of fouls (-0.5) and getting yellow carded (-1.5). At the end
of the day they are there to break up the play and protect their defense so
they don’t typically find themselves in scoring positions very often.
